About Doris Lee

While an undergraduate student, she has performed principal violin with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman Philharmonia. Doris has also participated in master classes by Roger Tapping, Tokyo Quartet and Paivyt Meller. She has received lessons from Professors Zvi Zeitlin, Charles Castleman, Juliana Athayde and Marylou Churchill. In the summer of 2008, Doris participated in the Heifetz Institute of Music and Interharmony International Music Festival as a scholarship recipient. Doris attained the Licentiate Diploma of the Royal Schools of Music (L.R.S.M) with distinction in 2003 and the Fellowship Diploma of the Trinity College London (F.T.C.L) in 2007. In the same year, she also played as a freelancer with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.Doris has captured various prizes in violin solo and concerto competitions in the Hong Kong Schools' Music Festival. She was the third-prize winner of both the Miss Barbara Fei Instrumental Scholarship and the Seasound String Concerto Competition. Other awards include first prize for the junior group strings section (Hong Kong and Asia category) of the Toyama Asian Youth Music Competition in 2002, and fourth prize for the senior group string section (Asia Category) in 2004. Doris was also a finalist and attained a level of distinction in the South China Morning Post Student Musician of the Year Award, 2002 - 2003. Doris started playing the violin at the age of five under the tutelage of Mr. Wing-Shun Li, Ms. Hong-Ying Ho, and Professor Yao-Ji Lin of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She has also appeared in shows hosted by Radio Television Hong Kong and Asia Television. In 2004, she was invited to perform in the Hong Kong Diploma Award Ceremony of the Royal Schools of Music. In the summer of 2002, Doris participated in the China concert tour of Yips’ Children's Choir, performing extensively as a soloist in Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guiyang. An active musician in the Hong Kong area, Doris is currently assistant concertmaster of the Pan Asia Symphony. She has also performed as violin soloist and toured with the orchestra on numerous occasions. In 2011, she participated as one of the violin soloists in Professor Yao-Ji Lin’s memorial concert and performed Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins in B minor. In the summer of 2012, Doris was invited to perform as a violin soloist with the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra, playing the renowned “Butterfly Violin Concerto.” In 2014-15, she has been featured in recital series hosted by Baptist University and Great Eagle Holdings Limited. She gave 10 bi-monthly recitals at Citibank Plaza, performing all of Mozart’s 35 violin sonatas. In 2016, she has performed extensively in concerts such as Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra's 20th anniversary concert and Diocesan Girls' School's annual summer concert. Doris is currently a violin instructor at the Yips’ Children’s Choral and Performing Arts Center and she maintains a private studio of more than 40 students.
