James began his successful media career after winning Channel [V’s] reporter search in 2000. Realising his natural talent for conversation, he quickly found himself in a world where his ability to talk matched his love for music. He rose to fame as the co-host of the inaugural series of Australian Idol in 2003, continuing for another six seasons. During these years, James also hosted three ARIA Awards, earning recognition for his quick wit, charm, comedic abilities, and live television presence. His reputation as someone who could think on his feet was solidified through countless hours on air.
In the years following, James balanced his commitments to Australian Idol and Channel [V], co-hosting the ARIAs while his band, ‘The Punisherz,’ gained notoriety as one of Sydney's worst bands—a criticism he took in stride. In April 2006, he was awarded an ASTRA award for Favourite Male Personality.
In 2009, James ventured into new territory, hosting his music show, Launch Pad, on Nova 96.9FM and becoming a correspondent on The 7PM Project. He co-hosted The League Lounge on Fox Sports, reviewed films on The FOXTEL Movie Show and Seven’s Weekend Sunrise, and filled in for Chrissie Swan on Can Of Worms, impressing Network executives enough to land the co-hosting role on TEN’s breakfast show, Wake Up, alongside Natasha Belling. James’ quick thinking, engaging personality, and ability to connect with anyone have made him a sought-after corporate MC.
