For as long as she can remember, the violin has been a central part of this Melbournian's life. A child prodigy, Sally's journey with the instrument began in school concert halls and evolved to include performances on stage, in orchestras, and on national television. Her successful solo work has seen her collaborate with some of rock and pop's biggest acts, including Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, Harry Connick Jr., Westlife, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, Kate Ceberano, and Ronan Keating. Now, she is launching her own recording with Universal Music.
In recent years, Sally has also made a name for herself in television, playing with the string section on The Footy Show. This led to the formation of The String Collective, a quartet featuring Sally, for Dancing with the Stars and It Takes Two. Her career has since skyrocketed: "We do all the strings for X Factor, Australia's Got Talent, and Dancing with the Stars," she says.
Sally's musical journey began much earlier. With an innate gift for playing and a natural ability to perform, she was accepted into the Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide at just eight years old. By nine, she was competing in national and international competitions and performing university-level concertos as a soloist with all major Australian orchestras.
Towards the end of her studies at the Australian National Academy of Music, Sally found herself drawn to the pop genre. This shift from classical to popular music, blending the two genres with a contemporary feel, has become the hallmark of Sally's signature sound: "When playing my violin solos, I play the gorgeous vocal lines with all my heart and soul poured into it to make it my own."
As an instrumentalist, Sally hopes her unique sound will add to Australia's musical landscape.
“There are just such beautiful sounds that come from the violin, and I hope it opens people’s minds to accept and enjoy listening to the violin, especially inspiring the young ones that are coming up and learning instruments. If anything, I hope I can do that, and do that worldwide.”
