About DJ Arun R
He has also been the first choice as the opening & closing act for many international artistes, such as Mark Farina, ATFC, Sandy Rivera, Mark Knight, Benny Benassi, Paolo Mojo, Riva Starr, TIGA, Chris Coco, Pete Gooding, James Lavelle, Boy 8-Bit, Atjazz, DJ Preservation, Jus-Ed, Lokiboi, Daniel Becker (Trickski/Hyena), Wolf & Lamb, Mitsu the Beats (Jazzy Sport), Chamboche, Downtown Party Network, Future Disco, and Sameed (Local Talk). His musical roots were planted during his early teen years through a gifted set of second-hand drums and random percussion instruments collected during his regular and varied travels.
A few years later, he landed himself a pair of low-torque turntables, and everything he has accomplished since has been a progressively upward and forward step in his musical journey. When he hits the decks on stage, Arun showcases a remarkable level of versatility, vibrancy and an unique ability to read and adapt to the sensitivities of his audience.
His forte, when given the opportunity, is to lean most endearingly towards the comfort zone of laidback, deep house and al fresco/daytime sets. Influenced by anything deep and punctuated by rhythm, Arun R appreciates music in a global sense, and has found his comfort spot in House – a melting pot of thought-provoking music genres that resonates with his own passion and desire to be expressive with his music.
His dad’s record collection, containing artefacts of soul, disco and jazz, the electrifying energy and ever-vibrant buzz of Hong Kong and its remarkable people and his own love affair with life has given him a deep understanding of the task at hand. In short, Arun R takes his many listeners and fans on a mood-influencing, relaxing but effervescent and breathtaking musical journey into the realms of balearic, deep, disco and soulful house.
Arun R is now working based out of Hong Kong, but traveling around Asia for gigs to nightlife destinations including Tokyo, Manila, Seoul, Bali, Singapore and Bangkok with more Asia dates being planned in 2016. He has only recently taken a big jump into the management side of things, taking on a position as Music Curator for W Hong Kong, and also running the music and events programme for the newly opened vinyl-centric venue, MyHouse.
Between 2013 and 2014, he spent 18 months in the studio working on several projects of his own as well as for other artists including Afterlife & Steve Smith (Dirty Vegas). He has released tracks on labels such as Stripped Recordings and Endemic Digital. He is also anticipated to make track appearances on label & festival compilations by Chris Coco and Pete Gooding. Serious plans for more studio time are being made for 2016, to nail down all the ideas Arun has been working on in between his gigs and managing rosters for top venues in the city.
