James Morrison is a virtuoso jazz musician of unparalleled versatility, celebrated globally for his mastery across multiple instruments. While renowned primarily as a trumpet player, he also excels on trombone, euphonium, flugelhorn, tuba, saxophones, and piano. His musical brilliance was evident from a young age when he represented Australia at prestigious Jazz Festivals in Monterey and Los Angeles.
James is not only a performer but also heads Morrison Records, an independent label dedicated to promoting the best of jazz. He devotes significant time to education, conducting master classes and workshops worldwide. Serving as patron for six youth bands, he annually awards scholarships to support the musical education of promising young Australians.
Throughout his career, James has garnered numerous accolades, including the MO Award for Australian Performer of the Year (1990) and the Ricky May Performer of the Year award. His impact extends internationally, highlighted by his acclaimed world tour from 1992 to 1994 with The Ray Brown Trio, performing across Asia, Europe, and beyond.
