Jim Wilson, a seasoned communicator, transitioned from the Seven Network after 20 years in mid-2020 to join Radio 2GB, part of the Nine Family of companies. At Seven Network, Jim served as the National Sports Editor and sport presenter for Sydney’s Seven News, also holding a senior host/anchor role. The opportunity to cover Sydney's life beyond sports at 2GB was an irresistible offer for Jim. For two years, he enriched Sydney’s drive-time listeners with news, current affairs, sport, lifestyle, and insights into the city's social fabric.In late 2022, Jim moved on from 2GB to focus on establishing his communications company, “The Comms Gurus,” with his wife, TV presenter Chris Bath. Additionally, Jim is available for MC roles and keynote addresses.
A self-described “sports nut,” Jim grew up on Queensland’s Gold Coast and began his journalism career as a cadet at Brisbane’s Courier Mail. Over his 30-year career, he has covered and hosted numerous significant sporting events, including eight Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, the British Open golf, cricket tours in South Africa and the West Indies, the World Cup soccer, the NRL State of Origin series, AFL Grand Finals, and most recently, the Big Bash League.
Jim’s after-dinner speeches are filled with the humorous anecdotes typical of a seasoned sports journalist. He is also a sought-after Master of Ceremonies, known for his professional and punctual performances at AGMs, corporate events, charity events, and awards nights.
Jim's reputation is further affirmed by his roles as an ambassador for two football clubs from different codes: the Carlton Football Club in Melbourne and the Titans Rugby League Club on the Gold Coast.
Jim is a passionate supporter of several charities committed to cancer research. Jim lost his youngest son, Sam, to brain cancer in 2010 when he was just six years old. He is an ambassador for Cancer Council NSW. “Sam was an incredible boy who deserved better but his attitude towards life and his courage defied his age and he drives me every day – his memory will live on forever,” says Jim.
