Ben O’Donoghue is one of Australia’s most beloved celebrity chefs, known for his charismatic presence and culinary expertise.
A highlight of his illustrious career was catering the 2015 G20 summit, where his dishes were so well-received that even former US President Barack Obama came back for more.
Ben embodies the modern, boisterous Aussie Dad, blending his larrikin sense of humour with high-end culinary skills and a passion for sharing his knowledge about food and cooking. This unique combination has endeared him to audiences across the country.
He is the proud owner of three successful and award-winning Brisbane establishments: Billykart Kitchen, Billykart West End, and Billykart Bar. These venues reflect his signature laid-back style, use of fresh local produce, and distinctive flavours.
Starting his career in Australia in the 90s, Ben moved to London, where he worked at renowned kitchens like the famous River Café, Monte’s Club, and Atlantic Bar and Grill, alongside culinary giants such as Jamie Oliver and Oliver Peyton. He quickly became a well-known personality, hosting the BBC2 series ‘The Best’ with Paul Merret and Sylvana Franco.
Upon returning to Australia, Ben immediately began filming ‘Surfing the Menu’ with Curtis Stone, which ran for four successful seasons. He went on to host several other TV shows, including ‘The Best in Australia’ on the Lifestyle Channel, ‘Drive thru Australia,’ ‘Tom & Ben’s Singapore,’ ‘Aussie BBQ Hero’s’ on Channel 7, and ‘Eat Well for Less’ on the Nine Network.
Ben has authored four cookbooks with Hardie Grant Books: Outdoor: Grill Your Way Round the World, Ben’s Barbeque, At Home With Ben, and Ben’s Barbecue Bible. His fourth book, Ben’s Meat Bible, was released in 2015. He has also contributed regularly to major food magazines, including a decade-long stint writing for Delicious.
