Richard Sanford, Musical Director and Keyboardist for Delta Goodrem, Richard had previously worked with Delta on her Innocent Eyes album and has been working hard this year on the promotional tour, covering the globe - from Australia to the UK; Asia to New Zealand, promoting her recent album, Mistaken Identity.
When it comes to inspirational figures Richard holds Prince in extremely high regard and while he realises that he's not the kind of performer Prince is, he is keen to emulate Prince's musical output with the kind of quality and quantity of diverse material. "The way he writes and puts music together is the pinnacle to me.", he says and adds, "Exactly the same goes for Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis." When we asked about other musicians who have influenced his work Richard comments, "During my teens I was a big Jim Morrison fan. Something about his radicalism appealed to me, I think. His stuff doesn't seem so challenging now but at the time it would have been very fresh. I was also hugely inspired by Ray Manzarek's (The Doors) keyboard playing and his left-hand bass work. I was a massive Stevie Ray Vaughan fan during my blues guitar period. Then there's Albert King and Freddie King. Too many R&B artists to name them all, but especially D-Train, Donny Hathaway and obviously Stevie Wonder."
