Justin Langer is celebrated as one of Australia’s premier cricketers and coaches, renowned for his distinguished career and contributions to the sport and community.
Originally playing at number three, Justin Langer transitioned to opener in 2001 and went on to play 105 test matches, amassing 7,696 runs, including 23 centuries. Alongside Matthew Hayden, he formed an iconic opening partnership in Australian cricket history, marked by six double century stands. Their on-field synergy was pivotal in many of Australia's victories.
A highlight of Langer's playing career was his pivotal role in reclaiming the Ashes during the 2006/07 series, where he and Hayden were at the crease for the winning runs in his final match. Beyond his playing days, Langer continued to excel, surpassing Sir Donald Bradman's first-class run record in 2009 during a stint in UK country cricket.
Transitioning to coaching post-retirement, Langer began with the Australian Test cricket team in 2009, eventually becoming Assistant Coach by 2011. His dream came true in 2012 when he was appointed Coach of Western Australian cricket, overseeing the Western Warriors and Perth Scorchers. In 2018, he ascended to the highest position in Australian cricket as the Coach of the Australian cricket team, a role he held until 2022, marked by significant victories in the T20 World Cup and the Ashes.
Beyond cricket, Langer is deeply involved in charitable endeavours and community service. He serves as patron for several organisations, including Solaris Care and Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation, and is an ambassador for causes like The Fathering Project and Ovarian Cancer Australia.
Honoured with the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his contributions to cricket and community, Langer continues to inspire through leadership and his ongoing literary pursuits.
He currently holds positions on the boards of the West Coast Eagles Football Club and Mineral Resources Ltd, alongside his writing projects which include six books and a forthcoming work on leadership.
