Having spent years honing his skills in kitchens across the globe, Miguel Maestre is a talented Spaniard who now calls Sydney home.
Born in Murcia, Spain, Miguel’s passion for food was evident from an early age. He has seamlessly integrated Spanish ingredients and cooking techniques into his Australian culinary creations, earning acclaim for his innovative approach.
Miguel's career milestones include serving as head chef at “Number One,” under the mentorship of Australian culinary icon Tony Bilson. He later ventured into entrepreneurship with the launch of Australia's largest Spanish restaurant, “El Toro Loco,” situated in a prime waterfront location at Manly Beach. His culinary journey also includes working alongside Ferran Adria at the renowned “El Bulli” and overseeing the culinary operations at prestigious events like the Emirates Melbourne Cup and the Formula One Grand Prix.
Recognised for his contributions to promoting Spanish culture through media in Australia, Miguel was honoured with the highest civilian award from His Majesty The King of Spain, the Order of Civil Merits.
On television, Miguel gained widespread popularity as a co-host on Network Ten's Logie-winning show “The Living Room,” alongside Amanda Keller, Dr Chris Brown, and Barry DuBois. His other TV credits include international shows like “Boys Weekend,” “Miguel’s Tropical Kitchens,” “Miguel's Feasts,” and “Weekend Feasts,” which have showcased his culinary adventures across diverse landscapes.
Miguel’s accolades extend to winning Channel Ten’s hit show “I am a Celebrity, Get me out of Here” South Africa in 2020, earning him the title of King of the Jungle.
An accomplished author, Miguel has penned three best-selling books: “Miguel’s Tapas,” “Spanish Cooking,” and “Life Force,” co-authored with his close friend Barry Du Bois.
